How's my health? A personal health record
A record-keeping tool to keep track of personal and family health history (also
available in Spanish)
In 1995 The Women’s Fund realized that changes in the insurance industry might necessitate
the choice of a new health care provider. To help both patient and physician with
this dilemma, How’s my health?, formerly entitled
Health Notes, was
"born." This publication is endorsed by the Harris County Medical Society
and distributed free of charge throughout the Houston metropolitan area. It is a
simple, practical way to take charge of one’s health history and effectively collect
and maintain one’s own medical records.
"It is the most complete, 'user friendly' health record I have ever seen....
Thank-you for creating the booklets and providing this valuable tool to people."
"Useful because medical information can be put in one place & just-large-enough-to-find
book."

What about me? A girls' guide to health
A book to help girls ages 12-16 deal with important health and self-esteem issues,
including body image, dating rights, and substance abuse (also available in Spanish)
In 1999 The Women’s Fund recognized the need for a comprehensive health education
guidebook for girls ages 12 –16. A Community Advisory Board of professionals and
four teen groups provided expertise in producing this vital publication with initial
funding provided by The Junior League of Houston, Inc. This publication entitled
What About Me? was made available in English and Spanish. In 2005 the publication
began its first update. Over the past three years, recommendations were sought through
the Community Advisory Board and two focus groups. The second edition of What About
Me? was released in February of 2008. Currently, the updated version of this publication
is being translated into Spanish and should be available by year end.
"It really helps teens make good choices. I loved it and would pass it on to
people. Great book!"
"It is a very good tool that opens up the lines of communication between girls
and their caregiver/instructor. It helps to make the discussion of sensitive – and
sometimes not addressed – issues easier."

What about me? A girls guide to health Curriculum Guide
After two years of circulating
What About Me? throughout the city of Houston,
it became clear that there existed a potential for use beyond individual or family
use. With this in mind, The Women’s Fund applied to The Brown Foundation, Inc. for
funds to develop a companion guide to be used in group settings that would expand
the impact of the What About Me?
It is our hope that teachers, club sponsors, scout leaders and other
caring individuals who work with girls aged 11-16 will find the
curriculum a helpful tool as they guide girls
in making healthy decisions that result in happier, more productive lives.
In
the Fall 2008, The Women’s Fund launched its first after-school class
for middle school girls using the
What about me? books and
curriculum guide.
The classes
consist of activities and discussions related to the issues in
What about me? including
body image, nutrition and exercise, healthy relationships and the
adolescent girl’s changing body.
