WomenConnect

Health Education for the Community

The primary goal of the coalition is to work to eliminate health disparities and increase health literacy within the identified populations, women who are minorities and are of low socioeconomic status, utilizing collaborative and evidence-based strategies. The coalition members’ work together to strengthen and expand agencies’ ability to affect these health disparities.

To reach this goal, The Women’s Fund connects health professionals and health students to agencies and offer presentations and/or develops culturally appropriate health promotion materials. "We train an organization’s members, community practitioners, and/or volunteers on our health topics, so an organization can provide their own health
education classes.

All agency presenters receive an orientation and facilitation tips, and/or tools that facilitate interactive learning. Funding in the form of a stipend may be available to agencies or presenters.

Presentations are on the following topics, or any identified topic of need:
  • BodyWorks: A toolkit designed to improve family eating and activity habits
  • Resiliency Skills and Health Issues
  • Basic women’s health information based on individual or community needs
  • Keeping track of your medical records
  • Issues related specifically to social determinants that increase health disparity and literacy concerns
